All About Mark
WHO I AM
I was born in Valdez before moving to the Mat Su Valley when I was 7 with my parents, Joe and Audrey Bailey, in search of the many opportunities our community has to offer. I was then raised right here in the Valley, attending Elementary through High School eventually graduating from Colony High School. I left the Mat-Su to earn a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Alaska. Shortly after college, I started working in both public and private sectors for companies and organizations ranging from Oil & Gas to the State regulatory body for Alcohol and Marijuana. After working through the early part of my career I married my wife, Jenny, and bought a home in the Valley in 2017 to start a family and a business. I quickly realized my home will always be here and decided to pursue my passions and become a licensed Cannabis Cultivator. With my sights turned to working towards making the Mat-Su an even better place to live and raise a family, I decided to run for Borough Assembly.
My experience has given me many skills that will prove useful to the voters of district 3. I managed the port schedules of offshore oil exploration vessels in the tight project timeline and high-pressure environment of Dutch Harbor during Shell’s Arctic Exploration project. I worked with local stakeholders to ensure a safe and expedient transit, gaining valuable experience in completing projects ahead of schedule and under budget. During my time in the Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office I gained respect for peace officers, government employees, and public volunteers who all work together to ensure businesses are working throughout the state in a way that puts the public health and safety at the forefront. This work served as a model into the way a board can work with the public in a transparent and efficient manner.
WHY I'M RUNNING
I decided to run for Borough Assembly to give back to the community that raised me and get back to basics. That means good roads, good schools, and a government that works for you!
These issues will require a forward-thinking and balanced approach, one that takes the consideration of the wellbeing of borough residents and the lands that sustain us. I will continue to listen to the feedback and needs of the residents as well as the advice of subject matter experts to produce outcomes with the Assembly that will give us all a happier, healthier and safer life in the Mat Su for years to come.
